From dog food to training, exercise to toys, there’s a lot you can do to optimize your pet dog health. Here are the three important tips:
- Practice regular preventative care. Brush your dog’s teeth, brush his coat, and clean his ears. Keep his nails clipped and regularly his eye health. When you pet your dog, keep attentive for ticks and other problems beneath his coat.
- Exercise your dog healthfully. Nothing is quite so good for your pet dog health (and your health!) as quality exercise time. This means not over exercising your dog and not under exercising him. For some dogs, a five mile daily run is the bare minimum, for others, a one mile leisurely walk is too much in warm weather.
- Feed your dog healthy dog food. Nutrition makes a big difference in your pet dog health, so feed a top quality food and feed a healthy amount (not too much and not too little). Don’t feed your dog people food unless you’re feeding a special diet. (In other words, ice cream should never be on your dog’s menu, but specially prepared chicken is probably fine.)

Today, I thought I’d tell you about our next Good Dog Health giveaway. We’ll be giving away my dog, Vance’s, favorite treats: Zuke’s Jerky. Don’t enter just yet, but make sure to stop by often to catch me when I first announce the giveaway–our first entrant will get a prize, too. (The other prize will be awarded randomly.) Zukes are delicious (I’m assuming–I’ve never actually tasted them myself ;-)) and soft so they’re perfect for stuffing into Kongs and sterilized beef bones. Vance will do just about anything for one and they’re easily breakable so that I can give him just a bit during training.
